Art Therapy

Warning, this post contains themes of Mental Health.

One of the things that we have been doing in the Partial Hospitalization Program was Art Therapy. I found art therapy to be very soothing and healing. It helped me escape all my stress, anxiety and depression. I took the art prompts and attempted to put my own style and personality into them. I found my favorite medium was pencil and I was still able to really express myself through it. I used my knowledge of Geometry and Drafting to create pieces of art that I felt showed my personality. It helped me activate a part of my brain that I have not used since somewhere around Jr. High. And while Jr. High me would probably look at the art I am doing now and be super disappointed, it doesn’t matter because similar to my writing, it doesn’t have to be for anyone else but me.

The above drawing was something I created in a free art session. It doesn’t necessarily have any special meaning and I was just experimenting. There are a few mistakes that I discovered later on but I didn’t want to start over from a very early on, and now that I look at it, I can’t see the mistakes myself. (but they are there)
